How AI Matches Your Face Shape to the Right Haircut

The best haircut isn't the one in the latest reel — it's the one that suits the shape of your face. Our free AI Style Match works that out from a single selfie in seconds. Here's exactly what happens between the photo and your top three cuts, and why you can trust it.

Why face shape decides the cut

A haircut is really about balance. The right length, fringe and volume add width where a face is narrow, soften angles where it's strong, and add height where it's round. The same cut can look sharp on one person and wrong on another purely because of face shape. Stylists read this by eye in a consultation — the AI Style Match does the same first read for you before you ever step in.

From selfie to haircut in six steps

1

You pick Male or Female

This decides which stylist-written cut list and which styles-to-avoid you will see.

2

You take or upload a selfie

A straight-on photo in good light with your hair off your face gives the cleanest read. Nothing is sent anywhere.

3

The AI maps your face

A face-landmark model running inside your browser places hundreds of points on your forehead, cheekbones, jaw and chin.

4

It measures the proportions

Face length vs. width, forehead vs. jaw, and how narrow the chin is — ratios, not guesses, so the same face gives the same answer.

5

It names your face shape

The ratios place you in one of seven shapes, with a confidence level and a plain-English reason.

6

Your stylists' matrix picks the cuts

Your shape and gender look up three flattering cuts — each with a one-line reason — plus what to avoid. Then you can book it in one tap.

How the AI decides your face shape

Once the landmark points are placed, the tool measures five things: the length of your face (hairline to chin), the width across your cheekbones, the width of your forehead, the width of your jaw, and the width of your chin. It then compares them. In plain terms:

Oblong

Face is at least 1.5× longer than it is wide.

Diamond

Cheekbones are clearly the widest point, with a narrow, tapered chin.

Heart

Forehead is noticeably wider than the jaw.

Triangle

Jaw is noticeably wider than the forehead.

Round / Square

Length and width are almost equal. A softer, tapered chin reads as Round; a broad, strong jaw reads as Square.

Oval

Balanced proportions with a gently rounded jaw — everything else.

It also checks whether you're facing the camera straight on. A tilted head distorts these ratios, so if the photo isn't frontal the tool lowers its confidence and tells you how to retake it.

Why the haircuts come from stylists, not the AI

This is the part we care most about. The AI has one job: identify the face shape. It does not invent hairstyles. Every cut you're shown comes from a matrix our stylists wrote — three flattering cuts for each of the seven shapes, separately for men and women, each with a one-line reason and a note on what to avoid.

That keeps the advice consistent (the same face always gets the same answer), keeps every suggestion something we can actually cut and style in Whitefield, and makes the “not quite right?” override instant — change your shape and the suggestions update with no waiting.

Your photo stays on your phone

The face reading runs inside your browser, on your device. The photo is never uploaded and never stored — it's discarded the moment you see your result. The only thing we record is an anonymous tally (for example, “one Oval, female”) so we can see the tool is useful. No name, no phone number, no image.

How accurate is it?

Honestly: it's a very good first read, not a verdict. Face shapes sit on a spectrum — plenty of faces are between two shapes — so the tool shows a confidence level, and you can switch to a different shape with one tap. Hair covering the forehead, strong shadows, or a tilted head can all nudge the result. Treat it as the start of your consultation: your stylist will confirm the cut in person, taking your hair type, density and lifestyle into account too.

Tips for the best result

  • Face the camera straight on — no tilt, chin level.
  • Pull your hair back so your forehead and jawline are visible.
  • Use daylight or bright, even light from the front.
  • Keep a neutral expression — big smiles change your jaw and cheeks.

Pair your new cut with the right treatment

A great shape deserves healthy hair. Our AI Hair Treatment Finder reads your hair texture from a close-up photo and suggests treatments — keratin smoothing, Nanoplastia, or a hair spa — to go with your new look.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI know my face shape?

It finds hundreds of landmark points on your face in the selfie, then measures the length of your face, the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw, and how pointed your chin is. Those ratios decide which of seven face shapes you are closest to.

Is my photo uploaded or stored?

No. The face reading runs entirely on your own phone or computer. The photo is never uploaded or saved. We only count anonymous totals, such as how many people matched as Oval, so we know the tool is helping.

Who chooses the haircuts — the AI or your stylists?

Your stylists. The AI only identifies your face shape. The three cuts you see come from a matrix our stylists wrote for each shape, separately for men and women, so the advice stays consistent and every suggestion is a cut we can actually do.

What if the AI picks the wrong face shape?

Tap the correct shape under your result and the suggestions update instantly. The tool also shows a confidence level, and your stylist will confirm the final cut with you in the chair.

Does it work for men and women?

Yes. You choose Male or Female first, and the suggested cuts and the styles to avoid are tailored to that choice.
